Unknown Webmail Features

Mike, one of our software developers, has a good post on some of the features we've recently added to webmail that most users probably don't know about. In summary, they are:

Purge any Folder
If you Alt+Click on a folder link in the left menu (or hold down the letter 'z' while clicking), you'll get the option to purge it of all messages. Good for breakups.

Read Message in Plain Text
If you Alt+Click or Alt+DoubleClick an email message, it will display that email message in plain text. Useful for opening spam.

Drag Checkboxes (only works on the email list)
Click on a checkbox and hold down the mouse button as you roll over other checkboxes. It's an easy way to select multiple mailboxes, and works for unselecting too. Once you play around with this and get used to it, you miss it when it's not available.

Keyboard Shortcuts (only works on the email list)
Press the up or down arrows to navigate through the messages in your mailbox. Also, pressing the 'Delete' key will delete the message and open up the next one in line.

Delete Messages Permanently (only works on the email list)
If you hold down the shift key while pressing the ‘Delete’ button above the email list, any messages selected will be deleted from your system permanently, even if deleting messages normally moves them to trash. Be careful!

Webmail Lite now has calendar, tasks, and latest version of webmail

We launched the latest version of Webmail Lite today, adding all of the features we recently included in our Neptune release such as the web-based calendar, the task list manager, and all of the latest webmail enhancements and speed improvements.

Webmail Lite is a service that will continue to improve over time. In fact, we plan to use Webmail Lite as a beta-testing ground for new products and services. Lite users will even receive many of our product and service enhancements before our email hosting customers and resellers.

Webmail Lite is a free email service with no strings attached. We don’t even make you look at ads. :-)

IP-Restricted Control Panel Login

We have implemented a new feature that allows companies to indicate specifically where their email administrators can log in to the administrative control panel. For example, a company can require that certain administrators only access the control panel from the office.

To set up this feature:

1. Log in to the control panel.
2. Select Administrators.
3. Click once on the administrator for whom you want to adjust permissions.
4. In the Security Settings section, check the “Login restricted to IP Address(es) box.
5. Enter the IP address for each location from which the administrator is allowed to access the control panel. You may enter up to 3 IP addresses.
6. Click the Save button.
7. Repeat steps 3-6 for each additional administrator. Each administrator can have his or her own unique security settings.

If an administrator attempts to log in to the control panel from an IP address/location not listed in his or her Security Settings, the administrator will see an “Access Denied: This account is IP restricted message, and will be unable to log in to the control panel from that location.

We expect that this feature will be particularly useful for companies with multiple email administrators—helping to improve security by requiring administrators to only log in from work.

Is Webmail Built to Flip?

We get a lot of questions from customers, prospective customers, etc. about whether or not we’re a company hoping to be acquired. The short answer is NO, we’re not (at least not any time soon). We’ve got a long term vision of where we want to take Webmail and we’re putting the pieces in place to execute on that vision. If you don’t read my personal blog and would like a more details to this question, I wrote all about it right here.

Subscribe to this Blog via Email

If you’d prefer to subscribe to this blog via email, as opposed to RSS, you're now in luck. We’re using FeedBlitz to handle and deliver our email subscriptions. I’ve looked pretty carefully at the FeedBlitz service and while it’s not perfect, the company seems to be moving along and progressing quickly. If that changes, we’ll handle email subscriptions differently—but I anticipate good things.

System Maintenance on January 7th

We're doing a system infrastructure upgrade this weekend. We are planning on just a few minutes of downtime for this upgrade and some latency while we verify connectivity and failover traffic from secondary to the primary firewall. This will happen between 1:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. Saturday, January 7th as reported on our system status RSS feed.

Bill has more information on his blog, if you're interested. We’ll also be publishing more details on our latest infrastructure moves very soon.
