We are proud to announce that after managing email in-house for many years, the PGA of America recently decided to outsource their 10,000 (and growing) email accounts to us.
A lot of people ask me why a business would want to outsource their email to us. This quote from Larry Green, Director of Information Systems of the PGA of America says it all:
“We’ve been providing email accounts to our members for years, but we were hosting the email internally. As more of our members have signed up, the service has grown exponentially more complex to maintain in-house. In the past year alone, the volume of email and spam increased so much that we faced significant investments in hardware and software, not to mention the resources needed to setup and manage it all. Email management had become more than a full-time job for our IT staff and an expensive one at that. This is why we made the decision to offload these challenges. In the first week alone Webmail.us successfully filtered out more than 1,810,704 pieces of spam, stopped 636,693 directory harvest attacks, and prevented 3,695 viruses from being delivered. We are beyond pleased."
Yesterday we launched the second phase of our Domain Name Management system. This is a big one that will provide our customers with a lot more control over their domain names and settings. This phase of the project allows our customers to:
- Manage DNS Settings
- Manage Domain Name Servers
- Manage WHOIS Information
- Lock a domain to prevent transfer
Will has been the primary developer on this project. BL spent a lot of time the last two weeks putting the final touches on it, code reviewing, and testing it thoroughly. Ben P, Nell-Marie, Manny, and Bill, also played large roles in planning, design, and implementation. Thanks to all for a great team effort.
It is hard to believe, but we are officially seven years old today. And what a seven years it has been! While there have definitely been some ups and downs along the way, one thing I can say for sure is that business is better than ever. We're bigger, better, stronger, and faster than we've ever been and our future looks brighter than ever. I also enjoy coming to work more now than ever and I believe that most everyone here can say the same thing. And that is an awesome thing to be able to say.
Now for what we want for our birthday... here goes: if you're a happy customer and appreciate the email hosting services we provide, we would love it if you would do one of the following things:
1. Tell your friends and industry peers about us
2. Blog or write about the services we provide
3. Give us a link on your website—link love goes a long way
4. Tell us about it—we always love testimonials
And if you're not a happy customer, please email me and let me know why. As many of you know I read every email and more importantly, I respond.
We've talked before about our partnership with Rackspace and how reliable of a managed hosting partner they've been for us. Yesterday we announced how closely we've been working together on the design and deployment of our infrastructure hosting environment and how we've done it all with commodity hardware boxes.
When designing our infrastructure environment we had three primary goals:
1. The platform needed built-in redundancy at all levels of the configuration.
2. The platform must scale with the growth of our customer base.
3. The cost of the overall platform must scale as it grows, especially as the demands for unlimited storage and bandwidth increase over time.
Rackspace was able to help us to achieve each of these goals, and many more. They've been instrumental in helping us mature as an email hosting company and a Software-as-a-Service provider. Their expertise has been invaluable.
