Sr Manager of Engineering, Custom Solutions

The Senior Manager of Engineering will be responsible for building the new Custom Solutions segment of our business. This segment does not exist today. We are looking for a highly experienced Exchange Solutions Architect, with strong leadership skills, who is looking to take the next big step in their career. In the beginning, before you build your team, you will be a high impact individual contributor. Then you will work closely with our sales and engineering teams to design and deliver custom-tailored email solutions that meet the business objectives of our largest Hosted Exchange customers.

Your responsibilities to the customers (the people who pay us the big bucks) include:

• Your solutions will directly save our customers money by leveraging the efficiencies of our Hosted Exchange and Noteworthy systems, combined with custom systems hosted on dedicated servers within Rackspace data centers
• You will use your excellent communication and influential skills for dealing with senior leadership at customer companies to help create custom solutions that will directly save our customers money
• Your strong technical ability allows you to mentor and coach internal and external IT staff

Your responsibilities to your co-workers (the people pounding at your door) include:

• As you build your team of Exchange Solutions Architects, your role will transition from individual contributor, to leader
• As a leader, you will focus your time on hiring, coaching and developing a solid team in order to accomplish the above
• You will help set development goals for your employees and provide regular feedback to them so that they always know where they stand in your organization
• You will continuously find ways to improve the business through better processes and people
• You will also interact frequently with our software development team and various groups at Microsoft on projects that add new functionality and integration capabilities to our Hosted Exchange and Noteworthy platforms

Important skills and characteristics:

• 5+ years experience as Exchange Solutions Architect or similar
• 3+ years of management experience of technical professionals
• Great leadership and follow-up skills, customer service skills, and a positive attitude
• Versatile written and verbal skills
• Attention to detail and ability to master broad system interdependencies
• Advanced knowledge of key Microsoft technologies including Exchange, Active Directory, MOM, DPM, Windows Server, SharePoint, and Unified Communications
• Skilled in Windows Clustering and other high availability techniques
• DNS, Networking and Security fundamentals
• Proficient with Windows scripting technologies
• Knowledge of MS SQL and other databases
• .NET coding experience a plus
• Extensive knowledge of email and collaboration technologies
• MCSE required, MCA Messaging preferred (Exchange Ranger)
