Your responsibilities to the customers (the people who pay us the big bucks) include:
  • Ensuring maximum uptime for all of our databases
  • Troubleshooting performance issues and establishing database standards and best practices
  • Helping to support the best email hosting system in the world
  • Providing on-call support for the systems and associated software products
  • Responding to escalated questions quickly and efficiently
Your responsibilities to your co-workers include:
  • Designing, testing, maintaining, scaling, and installing all databases
  • Proactively monitoring databases for optimum performance and capacity restraints
  • Communicating with technical and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security
  • Defining and/or implementing access controls to data
  • Creating and testing data backups and making sure they are functioning properly
  • Setting up and monitoring of data replication

Important Skills and Characteristics

  • Experience with production DBA, managing multiple databases, Linux, and Windows
  • Knowledge of MySQL and Microsoft SQL Server
  • Familiarity with database centric hardware deployment and data communications networks
  • Knowledge of current relational database strategies including DB Normalization, Performance Tuning, Transactions, Replication, and Foreign Keys
  • Ability to interpret and write complex SQL series
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to express ideas clearly while working with a team or independently
