As the IT Geek, you love your job because you spend your days elbow deep in IT tasks. You interact with every person in the company as the go-to expert for all different types of technical issues. Your days fly by as you knock out one IT project after another and you are constantly rewarded with an expanding knowledgebase by playing with new toys (laptops, desktops, phone systems, networking gear, etc). Your responsibilities to your co-workers include:

  • Making sure that every person has the technology they need to be productive—this is huge
  • Supporting the IT needs of a growing company
  • Implementing, scaling and managing IT systems and procedures
  • Getting new employees set up with computers, phone, email, workstations, network access, etc.
  • Troubleshooting various issues on the work floor relating to computers, the phone system, internet, etc.
  • Being flexible with your work schedule (as your presence could be needed at any time!)
  • Track IT requests and stay on top of things to make sure nothing slips through the cracks

Important skills and characteristics:

  • Ability to troubleshoot computer related problems
  • Familiarity with common IT terminology, plus the ability to "dumb it down" for everyone else
  • Extreme multi-tasking skills
  • Knowledge of network printers and operating systems such as Windows, Linux, and Mac
  • Understanding of SSH, PuTTY, and interfaces such as Command line
  • Exceptional interpersonal, technical, oral, and written communication skills
  • Ability to execute tasks with minimal direct supervision and assume responsibility over the project until complete
  • A self-starter and a go-getter
  • Adaptable, flexible, and willing to learn and grow
